We will see the death of a lot of blogs in the next 10 years
Ranveer Allahbadia
When did you realise you want to be a blogger? How did the idea of
creating a blog come about?
I discovered blogging by mistake; I was trying to launch a fitness page start-up. One of our potential investors recommended that we should market our start-up on social media. That’s how I discovered social media. The fastest way to grow on social media, at that point, was starting a YouTube channel or a social media blog. That’s how I discovered blogging. I never realised I wanted to become a blogger, I started it by mistake. Once I figured the game, I came to know how to make money out of it. I shared the idea of that fitness page and took it full time.
Share some styling tips
I like keeping it basic in terms of style, dark blue pair of jeans for boys, black and white shirt, bunch of black and white t-shirts and you are good to go. If you are a person who enjoys colours, my personal choice would be navy blue, brown, grey, shades of blue, brown, grey and green. If, I go for brighter colours, my choices would be bright red, orange and more like that. If I am wearing bright colours, I prefer pairing them with darker colours and all this does not matter if you are not wearing good shoes. So, first prioritise your shoes and then do the colour matching.
What is your alternate career option?
If all this does not work, I will use my social media skills and work in my another company called Monk Entertainment, where we help influencers, we execute campaigns with brands. This career has taught me many things about social media and how people think, so, I can use this in any digital marketing business.
Describe your style.
My personal style is very simple, I enjoy shoes and watches but for my outfit, it is dark blue jeans and black chinos or blue chinos. I usually pair them with black and white t-shirts or shirts. But for Instagram, I dress up really well, that’s where my flashiness comes out. Also in parties I prefer little flashy clothes.
What is the main difference between Indian and international fashion?
Indians are a bit conservative. As they are discovering fashion right now, so they like dressing a little more low key as they do not want to get noticed too much .They do like standing out but without being noticed. It is similar to European dressing what I think. Internationally, you will see a lot more flashiness, jackets and all that, which is a little lesser this side
What would you say to someone seeking fashion advice?
Just learn the basics. Just the way you learn about fitness and dieting, learn about fashion too. There are a few rules and basics you need to follow. Also, get fit because fit body makes all the clothes look fantastic. So, first be fit and then learn the basics.
What, according to you, is the future of blogging in India?
I feel we will see the death of a lot of blogs in next 10 years. The whole industry is going to consolidate and boil down to 10-15 top fashion bloggers in India as we see a lot of small bloggers buying followers and carrying unethical practices. So, I think we are going to see consolidation after which we will see a bigger cash flow in the industry.
In your opinion, can an outfit (look) influence the opinion of one person over another?
Yes, we live in a shallow atmosphere where a lot of opinions are built or based on how you are dressed. Definitely, an outfit influences the opinions of people.
You are a benchmark of fashion for many men in the world. How does it feel?
I should thank my girlfriend who taught me to dress decently some four years back. I have taken her classy logics and put it on the internet.
Who is your inspiration and why?
Steve Jobs, because as I enjoy fashion, fitness and blogging, I love business way more. I would love to be remembered as someone like Steve Jobs who created revolutionary products.
How do you deal with pressure?
I meditate. Earlier there was pressure of blogging, social media posts and all but when I knew the game, I got into meditation. It washes up your mind and removes all the bad vibes
Which spring-summer 2019 trend are you eager to wear?
I am a huge shoes person, so this Spring/Summer 2019 collection, I am into chucky sneakers. Also, I am a gym freak so I would love to wear the chunky shoes to the gym as well
What’s the best fashion advice you’ve heard so far?
Wear cologne, it is way more important than your dressing.
What do you splurge on?
Recently, into watches and men’s formal shoes.
What do you think is the most recent notable trend to appear/reappear, and what are your thoughts on it?
The trend that has been reappeared is pastel colours. As much as I enjoy
monotone dressing, I do enjoy pastel pants and linen. Once in a while wearing pastel colours is good.
