De-stress at Work

It is absolutely normal to feel a little stressed and loaded at workplace but you should not ignore it when it starts affecting your mental and physical health. Health is a treasure and no amount of money or job is worth sacrificing it. Just remember that being ambitious is good but not at the cost of your well-being. Here we list a few ways to avoid stress at work.

Head off early
Avoid the stress of running late for office by leaving for work a little early; even five minutes are enough. Latecomers know the value of those five minutes! Studies also reveal that the lesser rushed you feel in the morning, the lesser stressed you will feel throughout the day.

Finish off important stuff first
Try to finish off the most important work in the early hours so that it does not annoy you throughout the day. After completing important stuff, you can relax and do the rest of work with a calmer mind.

Bring snacks
Make it a habit to carry healthy snacks to office. Always carry a bag of non-perishable snacks such as protein bars, dried fruits, nuts and juices. Opt for healthy options rather than junk food.

Socialise
Having good and trustworthy friends in the workplace is a blessing! They divert you from negative energies and anxieties and make you feel more relaxed. Even if you do not have a friend at the office, you can call your best friend for some time and have a light chat.

Stretch a bit
If you have a desk job, then stretching is a significant thing for you to do. You can do basic stretching, such lifting your legs up or rotating your neck. Sitting at a place for too long can increase the risk of forming blood clots. You can go for a little walk as well. Just do some sort of physical activity every two to three hours.

Engage with co-workers
Have you ever wondered why having a friendly-cum-professional relationship with your co-workers is necessary? Maintaining a friendly relation with your co-workers gives a feeling of belongingness. It makes the office a congenial place. And if you want to know what is going on in the company, who can be more informed than your co-workers?

Just Breathe
Drop all the work and worries and just focus on your breath for 10 minutes. It does not have to be serious meditation. To calm yourself, for your peace of mind, just relax and breathe deeply for a few minutes.

Make a list
If there are things that are really bugging you, make a list such things. Figure out why are they bothering you so much and list out the ways to tackle them.

Listen to your favourite music
Listening to your favourite music can do wonders for you, especially when you are loaded with tons of work. Wear your earphones and play your tune. If you are feeling lethargic, then listen to some rocking music.

Personalise your work station
If your company allows you to decorate your work station, then put some photos of your family or god or anything which is close to your heart. Even a photo of your loved ones can inspire you and make you smile and is a great reminder for whom are you in the office working so hard!

If possible, drink milk
Have you ever wondered why you experience a good night’s sleep when you consume warm milk before going to bed? The reason is that milk contains tryptophan, a substance known to boost “feel good” chemicals in the body. And if you are a caffeine lover, you can always add a little amount of coffee in your milk. A cup of your favourite beverage can lift your spirit.

Take small breaks
You are not a robot. Everyone needs a break from hectic work. Whenever you feel overloaded with work, just take five minutes off and you can have some “me time”. You can check out your Instagram, Facebook or YouTube but just for five to 10 minutes, otherwise you will get hooked.
