Struggling through all those deadlines and stressful work? A pampering and relaxing trip to a spa salon is your ultimate solution to relax the body and mind.

Here’s nothing quite as relaxing as a great massage in a blissful atmosphere. But sometimes the idea of visiting the spa may leave you wondering with questions like What’s the appropriate clothing to wear? What’s the proper etiquette in the spa? How much is an adequate tip? Read on to know about the increasing spa culture and some helpful spa etiquette tips.

What are spas?

These are the places devoted to overall well-being through a variety of professional services that usually lead to the renewal of mind, body, and spirit. In the modern world, these therapies are linked to beauty, pampering, indulgence, and health. It is often performed at a resort, destination spa, day spa or beauty salon.

Tips To Make The Most Of Your Spa Time

Arrive Early

Arrive at the spa earlier than the time of your appointment to relax, breathe and clear your mind before beginning your treatment.

Speak Up

Don’t be afraid to speak up if you feel uncomfortable. Keep in mind that your therapist is there to help and answer all queries related to a spa treatment. So if there is anything they can do to make your spa experience more pleasurable, don’t be afraid to let them know.

Drink Plenty of Water

A spa session often releases toxins from the body, so make sure that you drink plenty of water before and after a massage.

Little Jewellery

Remove or wear little jewellery so as to avoid potential discomfort during massages. Also, if lost or stolen, spas do not take the responsibility for it, so it’s better to leave all unnecessary valuables at home and relax peacefully without any worry of your belongings.

Exfoliate and Shower

Do exfoliate before any tanning treatment as areas of dry skin can cause your tan to look uneven. You must take a shower before your visit and get rid of all the sweat or oil and dust. Go fresh and clean. Your therapist will appreciate it too.

Don’t Forget to Tip!

If you feel that you’ve had outstanding service, you can reward your therapist with a 15-20% tip but it’s not a compulsion. It’s just considered a small gesture of thanks for their amazing efforts as without a trained, skilled and pleasant therapist, your spa experience would have been close to a nightmare. Also treat the spa employees with respect and always provide an honest feedback about your experience with them.

What to Avoid During Spa Session

Arrive full

Avoid a big meal before a massage or a treatment. Arriving full for the therapy and lying down soon afterward can cause gas, nausea, or an upset stomach and could leave you in utter discomfort and disappointment, therefore giving you no benefit of your session.

Mobile phones

You will not be able to enjoy your treatment if you are constantly taking calls or texting. The spa is intended to be a peaceful and calm retreat and a ringing phone can be irritating to you and everyone around you.

Getting up right away

After completing your session, don’t be in a hurry to leave. Try to relax for at least a few minutes after the therapist has left the room. Rushing back to work after a massage is counterproductive. Slowly come back to real life. Take a few deep breaths and then get up.

Being Self Conscious

Your therapist sees semi-nude bodies on a daily basis, so don’t be conscious about your body. You’re at the spa to relax so don’t worry about non-productive stuff like what you look like, or else you will ruin your session.

Dissatisfaction

If your experience or the treatment is not what you were expecting, just communicate. It’s much better to raise issues with your therapist at that time, so that they can then do something to solve it. Waiting until you get home and then raising an issue is really pointless. It will only leave you dissatisfied.
